ARTIST BIO

I am a career artist based in Adelaide and painting in a contemporary impressionist technique. I work in oils and have largely painted coastal wildlife in recent years, together with portraits. For the past few years the wildlife subjects have captivated me – the elegance and beauty of these animals, as well as studying how light interacts with water both above and below the surface. I have come to learn that our relationship with them is not neutral as they have the ability to evoke great emotions in our being. My underwater subjects primarily began with the various sea turtle species and have expanded to include other life forms, such as sharks and the gulls of the beautiful South Australian beaches. I am also exploring how these animals interact in our man-made environments - sometimes in witty ways.

By now I am privileged to have had solo exhibitions, sold work through galleries, exhibited at shows, enjoyed successful commissions, won awards, and featured in publications, but it is always about paying acute attention to what it is I am painting. I aim to interpret a visual sensation of light into paint pigment by utilising, for instance, the broken colour technique of the famous impressionists to achieve this.

I very much look forward to hearing your thoughts on the work.
